Support Innovation & Art in New York Within this economy, AFA has not only survived, we have continued to develop our programming. Recently we launched The First 28 Hours Of Innovative Art, a multi-arts Marathon that celebrates the diversity of Innovation in NYC. Kids Free Play was a exciting component of the 28 Hours. It was an opportunity for musicians, dancers & artists to introduce kids to Art & Creation in a playful way. We are currently looking into making the Kids Free Play into a recurring event. And the weekly RUCMA series has grown to include The Evolving Voice, a showcase of the best of NY vocal underground. With your continued help and support, we will strive to create more opportunities for NY artists! Your donation to Arts For Art will help us continue to produce upcoming Innovative Arts & Music programming in 2010:
How We Do It The breadth of AFA productions has grown exponentially over the years. While the Vision Festival remains at the center of our efforts and has become a jazz world institution, we strive to offer broader but equally innovative programming all year round. Everything we do is ultimately about strengthening community and our sense of place as a community, from our concert series to our educational programs. The Vision Festival is an annual, week long festival of music, dance, art and poetry. It has been the primary focus of AFA's efforts in raising the awareness and reputation of avantjazz. This festival, now in its fifteenth year, attracts audiences from all over the world. It is now the most significant AvantJazz festival in the U.S. and one of the most prestigious in the world. The 28 Hours of Innovative Art is a Multi-Arts Marathon which takes place over 2 days, bringing together under one roof the diverse community of Innovative Arts in New York RUCMA Evolving Music and Evolving Voice Series continues the strong presence of innovative music in the Lower East Side by focusing on the best of New York's creative underground. The Vision Collaboration Festival fosters new collaborations between dancers, musicians and artists - thereby creating new interactive, interdisciplinary community. The In Gardens Series is a Free Concert Series featuring local professional innovative artists performing in local community gardens around the city. It takes place over two weekends of innovative music, dance and spoken word. RUCMA Meetings provide a forum in which artists in the community are able to participate and discuss the state of the arts creating the future of their music through articulating their needs and working to solve problems together, using their common voice to create a better climate in which their work can develop. Panel Discussions: AFA hosts public forums on a range of issues that impact the innovative community of artists and looks to suggest solutions to these problems. Emerging Arts at the Vision Festival: In addition to the youth performances on Sunday afternoon, The Vision Festival features Emerging Professional Artists on Saturday afternoons Workshops for music teachers on integrating innovation in their curriculum: in connection with this the students perform on Sunday afternoon as part of the Vision Festival. Kids FreePlay was a part of the 28 Hours of Innovative Art: This gave a chance for children to interact with live music, dance, gymnastics and arts and crafts in a structured yet free environment. It was received with so much enthusiasm that we are looking to building it into our ongoing events.
