Darius Jones (born May 3, 1978) is an American saxophonist, composer, and professor known for his innovative approach to Black music, avant-garde, and experimental sounds. A prominent figure in contemporary jazz, Jones’ work spans solo saxophone performances, chamber music, and vocal ensembles. His compositions have been celebrated by outlets like NPR Music, The Wire, and PopMatters, while his live performances have earned critical acclaim from The New York Times. A graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University and New York University, Jones has collaborated with artists like Matthew Shipp and the punk-jazz quartet Little Women. His notable recordings include Man’ish Boy (2009) and Raw Demoon Alchemy (2021), and in 2024, he was appointed Assistant Professor of Music at Wesleyan University.
