djassi daCosta johnson is a dancer, choreographer, photographer, filmmaker, anthropologist, writer, activist and designer and Doula. djassi hails from Harlem, NYCtrained at HSA, Ballet Hispanico, Clark Center and on fellowship at Alvin Ailey. She has worked and apprenticed with MOMIX , Dance Brazil, Earl Mosley, Bill T. Jones, Hernando Cortez, Ron Brown’s Evidence and Urban Bush Women among others. Djassi worked as a dancer & choreographer in Brazil, and in Italy for almost a decade years working on TV & film. djassi’s choreography has been displayed in fashion shows, music videos international festivals and in films including for ESSENCE, NIKE, PNB Nation, Morellato & Pandora Jewelry and, NYFW for Isamar Designs and Studio 189. djassi performs in collaboration with visual artists and jazz musicians on live and video work and has created works with Eddie Peak, Lia Chavez, Gloria Gaynor, Joan Baez and Alice Walker among others. Djassi is mama to her 13 year old daughter, Luna and is an Assistant Professor of Dance.
