Music is Mine (MiM) is Arts for Art’s music program for all musicians. With improvisation as the basis of our pedagogy, our teachers (FreeJazz legends) give students the capacity to create music, both collaboratively and individually, whether the student is a beginner or advanced.
William Parker leads
Intergenerational Ensemble
Intermediate and Advanced-level musicians are invited to learn ways to build a creative improvising musical vocabulary by listening and responding to different sounds using all of the technical and creative tools at their disposal.
Musicians will be encouraged to find their unique sound thus enriching the music. The overall emphasis is on inspiration and reaching for new creative heights and in this way, they can find their way into the Tone World. Under the musical direction of William Parker.
MiM collaborates with the Institute for Collaborative Education and the Urban Assembly School of Music and Art to introduce collective music-making to its students.
These opportunities teach group improvisation through careful listening, develop confidence by encouraging students to bring their compositions for development and group performance, introducing students to rhythms, melodies, and instruments of different cultures, and much more.
