Bio

Pianist, composer, and bandleader Mara Rosenbloom is renowned as “a whole-hearted poet of the piano,” celebrated for her fiercely lyrical approach to both composition and improvisation. Originally from Wisconsin, she has made her mark in New York City’s jazz and improvised music scene over the past decade. Rosenbloom’s debut trio album, Prairie Burn (Fresh Sound/New Talent), was hailed by The New York Times for its “bristling provocation” and praised by Downbeat Magazine with a rare 4.5-star rating. Her most recent project, Flyways, blends composed narrative and dynamic improvisation, featuring the work of poet Adrienne Rich. In addition to leading her own ensembles, Rosenbloom has collaborated with numerous respected artists, including William Parker, Darius Jones, and Cooper-Moore. Known for her versatility, she also performs in groups spanning genres, such as William Hooker’s MOON and Dawn Drake’s ZapOte.
